WAVERLY - The Williams Ford / NASCO Cubs scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning to blow open a close game in a 10-3 win over the New Image / Tom's Hardware Pirates here Friday afternoon in Waverly Little League Majors Division baseball action.

The game was tied 1-1 heading into the top of the third inning when the Cubs scored two runs to take the lead for good.

After the Pirates trimmed the lead to 3-2 with a run in the home half of the third inning, the Cubs stretched its lead to 8-2 in the top of the fourth, and added two runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Kohen Hugo earned the win for the Cubs, allowing three runs - none earned - on four hits, while striking out 14 and walking one in 5 2/3 innings. Eric Lewis struck out one and walked one in one-third of an inning.

Matthias Welles belted a pair of doubles, scored two runs, and had two RBI, and Eli Tenny doubled and singled, and scored one run to lead the Cubs' eight hit attack.

Eric Schrader III doubled, scored one run, and had three RBI in the win, while Kohen Hugo singled and scored three runs, Cooper Hugo singled and scored two runs, Lewis scored once.

Connor Davidson singled and drove in a run, while Brendan Cooke singled and scored two runs, Hayden Howe singled and scored one run, and Bryce Laforest added a single to account for the Pirates offense.

The Cubs improve to 7-1 on the season, while the Pirates fall to 2-5.

Up Next: Angels vs. Pirates, 10 a.m., Blue Jays vs. Cubs, 1 p.m. - Saturday.
