WAVERLY LITTLE LEAGUE: WINLESS ANGELS THROW SCARE INTO FIRST-PLACE INDIANS (23 PHOTOS) (2020-07-31)

WAVERLY - The winless Naglee Moving & Storage Angels threw quite a scare into the first-place Hemp Geek / Bradford Hospitality Indians. However, the Indians prevailed, 10-9, in seven innings here Friday evening in Waverly Little League Majors Division baseball action.

The Indians improve to 7-1 - tied atop the standings with the Williams Ford / NASCO Cubs, while the Angels fall to 0-7.

Trailing 2-0, the Angels scored three runs in the top of the third inning to take a 3-2 lead, but the Indians answered with four runs in the home half of the inning to take a 6-3 lead.

The Indians stretched their lead to 9-3 after five innings, but the Angels scored six unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning.

After the Indians' third hurler of the game "” Justin Koenig - pitched around a walk in the top of the seventh inning, the Indians took advantage of five consecutive walks (there was a runner thrown out stealing) to plate the winning run in the home half of the inning.

Jack Pipher doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in one run, and Koenig singled twice and scored three runs to lead the Indians' seven-hit attack.

Hogan Shaw singled, scored two runs, and drove in three runs in the win, while Jerry Carnrike singled and knocked in two runs, Avery Bowman singled and scored two runs, and Ben Shaw crossed the plate once.

Griffin Walter started for the Indians, allowing three runs - two earned - on three hits, while striking out six and walking one in 3 2/3 innings.

Pipher pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing six runs - all unearned - on four hits, while striking out three and walking three.

Koenig earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief. He struck out one and walked one.

Logan Roskow doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, and Elijah Hobday singled twice and scored two runs to lead the Angels at the plate.

Porter Daddona doubled and singled, scored one run, and had two RBI for the Angels, while Luciano Thomas singled and drove in a run, and Isaac Roy singled and scored a run, and Gianni Thomas and Jesse Gennarelli each scored a run.

Hobday had the best turn on the mound for the Angels, striking out two in 1 1/3 innings of perfect relief.
