WAVERLY - For the second time in less than a week, the winless Naglee Moving & Storage Angels went into extra innings with a first-place team.

The Williams Ford / NASCO Cubs scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning to pull out a wild 8-3 win over the Angels here Tuesday evening in Waverly Little League Majors Division baseball action.

On Friday, the Angels scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning, only to lose to the Indians, 10-9, in seven innings.

On Tuesday, the Cubs scored twice in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2. After the teams traded runs in the seventh inning, Aiden Doherty cracked a two-RBI single, and Matthias Welles added a run-scoring single in the Cubs' decisive eighth-inning rally.

The Angels scored their first two runs on a passed ball and a wild pitch, and led 2-0 after four innings.

In the top of the fifth, Cooper Hugo, Doherty, and Kohen Hugo rapped consecutive singles to trim the deficit to 2-1. Doherty then scampered home on an error to tie the game, but the Angles cut down the would-be go-ahead run at the plate.

Doherty belted a home run to center field in the top of the evening inning to give the Cubs a short-lived 3-2 lead, but Elijah Hobday scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the home half of the frame to send the game into the eighth inning.

Doherty had three hits, including a home run, scored three runs, and had three RBI, and Cooper Hugo singled twice and scored two runs to lead the Cubs' 11-hit attack, while Welles doubled and singled and drove in one run.

Eric Schrader III and Eli Tenny each singled and scored one run in the win, while Kohen Hugo singled and drove in one run, and Tristan Campbell added a singled.

Eric Lewis started for the Cubs, and allowed two runs - both unearned - on three hits, while striking out 11 and walking three in five innings of work.

Welles allowed one run on one hit, while striking out six in two innings of relief to earn the win, and Tenny struck out the side in a perfect inning of relief to finish off the game.

Logan Roskow singled twice, while Hobday doubled and scored two runs, Luciano Thomas singled and scored one run to account for the Angels' offense.

Porter Daddona started for the Angels, striking out two and walking one in 1 2/3 innings of work. Luciano Thomas was tagged with the loss, allowing eight runs - six earned - on 11 hits, while striking out five and walking one in 6 1/3 innings of work.

The Cubs improve to 8-1 and are tied atop the standings with the Indians, while the Angels fall to 0-8.
