WAVERLY LITTLE LEAGUE: ANGELS TOP PIRATES — FIRST WIN OF SEASON PUTS THEM IN SEMIFINALS (20 PHOTOS) (2020-08-09)

Valley Sports Report
WAVERLY - After a winless regular-season campaign, the Naglee Moving & Storage / Becky's Diner Angles picked a great time for its first win of 2020.

The Angels jumped ahead early, and never trailed in a 15-8 win over the New Image / Tom's Hardware Pirates here Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the Waverly Little League Majors Division baseball playoffs.

The Angels will face regular-season champion Williams Ford / NASCO Cubs Monday at 6 p.m.

The Angels took a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first, scoring runs on an RBI single by Luciano Thomas, and bases-loaded walks to Jesse Gennarelli and Gianni Thomas. Logan Roskow singled and Porter Daddona doubled in the rally.

The Pirates answered with a pair of runs in the home half of the first, with Bryce Laforest and Brendan Cooke scampering home on wild pitches.

Daddona's second double in as many innings plated Luciano Thomas to give the Angels a 4-2 lead, but the Pirates answered with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 4-4.

The Angels scored four runs in the top of the third inning to take an 8-4 lead, and led for the remainder of the game.

Roskow was 4-for-5 at the plate to lead the Angels.
