THE WEEK AHEAD: SAYRE-ATHENS SOCCER, VOLLEYBALL MATCH-UPS HIGHLIGHT FIRST FULL WEEK (2020-09-13)

THE VALLEY "” The first full week of the 2020 fall season is a busy one, despite having sports on just one side of the border.

There are 16 varsity events scheduled for the week, including six on Tuesday. The JV and junior high versions of the "Rusty Rail" rivalry will also be played.

The following are some, not all, of this week's contests.

MONDAY (1)
"¢  The eight-time defending NTL champion Athens Lady Wildcats host Sayre in the season-opener for both teams.

"¢  Sayre hosts Athens in the junior varsity "Rusty Rail" game at the Lockhart Street Bow.

TUESDAY (6)
"¢  The Athens boys, six-time defending NTL champions, open the 2020 season on the pitch at Troy.

"¢  The Sayre boys host Towanda on the soccer pitch at the Lockhart Street Bowl in the season opener for both teams.

"¢  The Athens and Sayre cross country teams open the season on the road.

"¢  The Athens volleyball team opens the season at Small School power Canton.

WEDNESDAY (2)
"¢  The Sayre girls play their home opener against NEB on the pitch at the Lockhart Street Bowl.

THURSDAY (3)
"¢  The Athens boys host Sayre in their home opener on the turf at Alumni Stadium.

"¢  Athens volleyball hosts crosstown rival Sayre.

"¢  The junior high version of the Rusty Rail rivalry will be played at Alumni Stadium following the Sayre-Athens boys soccer game.

FRIDAY (1)
"¢  Athens football hits the road for the first time, traveling to Canton.

SATURDAY (3)
"¢  The Athens girls host NP-Mansfield on the pitch at Alumni Stadium.

"¢  The Lady Redskins host Williamson on the soccer pitch.
