THE VALLEY "” The girls soccer season opens this afternoon with the two-time defending District 4 champion Athens Lady Wildcats hosting crosstown rivals Sayre in the only varsity event of the day in the Valley.

In junior varsity action, Sayre hosts Athens on the gridiron at the Lockhart Street Bowl in a 6 p.m. kick off.

Sayre at Athens, 5:30 p.m. @ Alumni Stadium: The Lady Wildcats, the eight-time defending NTL champions, are coming off a 15-3-2 campaign in 2019, while the Lady Redskins are looking to rebound from a 1-16 season.

Seniors Emma Roe, who scored 14 goals and dished out 10 assists, and Hannah Blackman lead Athens into action.

Junior Roz Haney, who has 67 goals in her two varsity seasons, led the Valley with 28 goals last season.
