FROM THE PRESS BOX: WEEK 6 PICKS — AN ALMOST FULL SLATE OF GAMES (2020-10-16)

The 2020 high school football season has been like any other we've ever witnessed.

Preparation for every game has also come with the apprehension it could be postponed at any moment, as evidenced by Sayre's game against North Penn, scheduled for tonight, being postponed this morning.

Had it not been for the Sayre-North Penn postponement, it would have been the first weekend this season all six Bradford County teams be in action.

Last week was perfection for me, and all three of my guest pickers. The Mick and I have a combined record of 30-6, while Little Red and Country Bob are 24-12. Individually, The Mick is 17-1, while Birney is 13-5, Little Red is 13-5, and Country Bob is 11-7.

FRIDAY
Troy (2-1) at Wellsboro (2-1), 7 p.m.:
The Green Hornets are coming off a 43-0 win over winless Towanda last week - its first game in three weeks, while Troy has been off since a 34-21 win over North Penn on Sept. 25.

Wellsboro scored 91 points in victories over winless Towanda and CV, but struggled offensively in a 17-14 loss to North Penn-Mansfield, while Troy beat NP-M 34-21. The Trojans also shutout Towanda, 35-0.

Prediction: It's difficult to gauge how teams will be effected by inactivity, but it seems talent and experience will win out in the end. Troy is definitely more experienced. ... TROY 28, WELLSBORO 14.
THE MICK: Troy 28, Wellsboro 13. ... LITTLE RED: Troy 21, Wellsboro 7. ... COUNTRY BOB: Wellsboro 24, Troy 23.

Montgomery (2-3) at Wyalusing (3-1), 7 p.m. @ Ray Raffin Field: The Red Raiders are coming off a 48-14 win over CMVT Saturday, while the Rams have been off since an 18-15 win over Sayre on Oct. 2.

Montgomery's two wins are against teams (Bucktail and CMVT) with a combined 1-9 record. Against teams with winning records (Northwest, South Williamsport, and Muncy), Montgomery is 0-3 and has been outscored by an average of 29 to 13.

Wyalusing also owns a pair of wins over winless teams (Towanda and CV), but beat a solid Sayre team, and its only loss (21-14) was to a 3-1 Athens team.

Prediction: Wyalusing's big-play ability will be on display, with the likes of Kashawn Cameron, Isaiiah Way, and Mitchell Burke leading the way. ... WYALUSING 42, MONTGOMERY 13.
THE MICK:
Wyalusing 30, Montgomery 24. ... LITTLE RED: Wyalusing 24, Montgomery 6. ... COUNTRY BOB: Wyalusing 24, Montgomery 12.

CMVT (0-4) at Towanda (0-4), 7 p.m. @ Endless Mountains Sports Complex: The Black Knights are coming off a 43-0 loss to Wellsboro, while the Rams lost 48-14 to Montgomery.

Towanda has been outscored by an average of 37 to 3.5 points per game, and have faced teams with a combined record of 10-4.

CMVT  has been outscored by an average of 47.5 to 13 points per game, and have played teams with a combined record of 11-9, including a 50-8 loss to a 1-4 Bucktail team.

Prediction: Towanda's defense has been better than the 37 points allowed per game indicates - it's spent entirely too much time on the field. Look for Rhyan West and Benjamin Haven-Fee to spearhead Towanda's offensive efforts tonight. ... TOWANDA 35, CMVT 12.
THE MICK: Towanda 14, CMVT 13. ... LITTLE RED: Towanda 27, CMVT 0. ... COUNTRY BOB: Towanda 18, CMVT 6.

SATURDAY
South Williamsport (3-0) at Athens (3-1), 7 p.m @ Alumni Stadium:
The Wildcats are looking to bounce back from a 33-9 loss to Canton Monday, while the Mounties topped Bucktail, 28-8.

Athens played better against Canton than the final score indicates, but made critical mistakes at inopportune times. The Wildcats limited their mistakes in a 3-0 start.

South Williamsport's only victory over a team with a winning record was a 21-14 decision over Northwest Area two weeks ago.

Prediction: The Mounties can run the football, and Athens has been susceptible against the run to this point. ... The Wildcats have played a tougher schedule, and have played pretty well against it. ... ATHENS 24, SOUTH 15.
THE MICK:
South 27, Athens 24. ... LITTLE RED: Athens 28, South 13. ... COUNTRY BOB: South 35, Athens 14.

Muncy (5-0) at Canton (2-0), 7 p.m. @ Miller A. Moyer Field: The Warriors are coming off an impressive 33-9 win over Athens Monday in their first game since Sept. 11, while the Indians topped Northwest Area, 21-13.

The Warriors have wins over teams (Troy and Athens) with a combined 5-2 record, while Muncy's wins are at the expense of teams with a combined mark of 7-18, with Northwest (3-2) the only team with a winning record.

Prediction: Canton turned to the ground game against Athens with great effectiveness behind the strong running of Riley Parker and Hayden Ward. Don't be fooled, however, they can still throw the ball. ... CANTON 26, MUNCY 6.
THE MICK: Canton 26, Muncy 13. ... LITTLE RED: Canton 27, Muncy 13. ... COUNTRY BOB: Canton 34, Muncy 12.
