NTL GIRLS SOCCER: SHORT-HANDED SAYRE DROPS 5-0 DECISION AT WILLIAMSON (2020-10-21)

Valley Sports Report
TIOGA JUNCTION "” Sayre started the game short-handed, and it got worse during a 5-0 loss to Williamson here Wednesday afternoon in NTL girls soccer action.

"Though we may have lost on the scoreboard, my team came out on top," said Sayre coach Tracy Mennig.

"I couldn't be prouder of those 9 players tonight," noted Mennig. "They were all heart, and played for each other. They have improved in so many ways this season.

"Tonight, we started with nine against their 11, then we went down to eight against their 11," she continued. "We were going down to seven against their 11, and I called the game with 8:30 left to play."

Hailey Warner scored a pair of first-half goals, sandwiched around a tally by Kara Shieve, to give the Lady Warriors a 3-0 lead at the half.

Chelsea Hungerford tacked on one of Williamson's two goals in the second half.

Williamson outshot Sayre, 24-0, and had a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Kylie Thompson 14 saves for the Lady Redskins, and Sara Ciavardini tallied four.

Sayre, now 1-9, is in action Thursday at Towanda.

"It has been a crazy season to say the least," said Mennig. "We didn't have a winning season, with regards to wins and losses, but this core group of girls has come together as a team and a family, and I would take that over any winning season."
