ON TAP TODAY: DISTRICT 4 CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS, PLAYOFF VOLLEYBALL ON THE DOCKET (2020-10-28)

THE VALLEY "” There are two events on Thursday's docket - the District 4 Cross Country Championships, and a District 2-4 Sub-Regional volleyball match.

CROSS COUNTRY
District 4 Championships, 9 a.m. @ Warrior Run H.S.: Sayre will be competing in the Class A Championships, while Athens will be running in the Class AA Championships this morning.

The Athens boys are a team to watch, with Connor Dahl, Matt Gorsline, and Kyle Anthony leading the way, while Lady Wildcat sophomore Emma Bronson could challenge for a trip to States.

The Redskins will be led by senior Carrie Claypool, who could also challenge to extend her career by another week.

VOLLEYBALL
District 2-4, Class AAA Sub-Regional
7-Athens (10-6) at 2-Greater Nanticoke (13-1), 5 p.m.: The Lady Wildcats are coming off a 3-1 win over Wyalusing Monday, while the Lady Trojans were swept by Berwick in a battle of unbeatens to determine the top seed in the SubRegionals.

Greater Nantickoke has played just two matches since Oct. 8.

With just two teams - Athens and Shamokin - in Class AAA in District 4, it was determined that they would play for a trip to States through District 2 in a Sub-Regional.
