TOP 7 MALE FALL SPORTS HEADLINES: THE OLD SHOE WAS ONE TO REMEMBER (2020-12-12)

Valley Sports Report
Despite the short and irregular Fall Sports Season, there were a few big stories that stood out.

7. Wyalusing's Kashawn Cameron has big night against Sayre
A week after struggling against Athens the Rams moved their top weapon, Kashawn Cameron, into the backfield and he had the best game of his career. He had eight catches for 175 yards and 10 carries for 85 yards, not to mention three total scores. The highlight was a 96 yard touchdown reception where he out ran the entire Sayre secondary to preserve the Wyalusing 18-15 victory.

6. Zion Laudermilch makes it  three straight years Wyalusing has a state medalist

After watching two state medalists graduate last season it looked like getting one in 2020 would be a long shot. Enter Zion Laudermilch, who put in the work in the off season as he was the NTL Runner of the Year, took third at districts and finished 19th at states to earn a state medal, the third straight for Wyalusing.

5. Athens football turnaround

The Wildcats went 1-9 a year ago and didn't win a league game. 2020 didn't look like the best time for a turnaround but they made it happen, going 5-1 in the regular season as they beat Sayre, Wyalusing, Towanda, South Williamsport and Montgomery, their lone loss being Canton. The South Williamsport win was particularly impressive as they were down 18-7 but rallied for a 35-18 win. Athens lost to Danville in the district playoffs, then watched as the Ironman won the district title and reach the state semifinals.

4. Troy defense plays 10 straight shutout quarters

Down 17-14 at the half against North Penn-Mansfield, Troy came out of that half and wouldn't allow a touchdown until their district game against South Williamsport over a month later. Troy rallied to win 35-17, holding the Panthers scoreless in the second half. Then, after having a 2-week hiatus due to Covid-19, they shut out Wellsboro 45-0 then followed that up with a 21-0 win over NP-Mansfield in their final regular season, including back to back goal line stands at the end of the game.

3. Athens cross-country goes undefeated in NTL cross-country

After winning a division title in 2019 and returning several key runners the Wildcats made good on their potential as they claimed the Division-I title again in 2020, while also going undefeated in dual meets. They edged out Wyalusing by a point (27-28) at Wyalusing to go 7-0 on the season.

2. Towanda soccer breaks 4-year winless streak

It's been no secret that Towanda boys' soccer has struggled recently but, despite early setbacks during the start of the season, this year looked different. It would prove different thanks to a 5-1 win over Williamson where Logan Lambert scored all five goals. They wouldn't have to wait quite as long for their next win, beating Troy 3-2 in double overtime later in the season.

1. Canton rallies past Troy for Old Shoe

This game summarizes the craziness of the Covid-19 football season. Troy came in without a scrimmage, while Canton had just watched Timmy Ward tear his ACL. The Warriors had a first half lead, but watched it evaporate as Troy went up 28-12 with 6:30 left in the game. Canton rallied to tie it up at 28-28 as they recovered two fumbles and had a necessary 2-point conversion pass get tipped right to a wide receiver. They won the game in overtime, and both teams went on to go undefeated the rest of the way in the regular season.
