THE VALLEY "” The first full week of the 2021 winter season tips off this evening with three basketball games, including one here at Athens.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
NEB at Athens (1-0), 6 p.m. JV start: The Lady Wildcats are coming off a 69-14 romp over Cowanesque Valley, while the Lady Panthers open their 2021 campaign.

Last year, Athens topped NEB, 44-36 in the regular season, then edged the Lady Panthers, 54-49, in the opening game of the NTL Showdown.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Sayre at NEB, 6 p.m.: The Redskins are coming off a 13-13 season, but their third-place finish in the District 4, Class AA Championships earned them a trip to the PIAA playoffs.

The Panthers are coming off a 12-11 season, and graduated several seniors.

Last year, NEB rolled to a 71-46 win over Sayre on its home floor. Just 12 days later, Sayre returned the favor with a 61-38 win on its home court.

Athens at Mount Carmel, 6 p.m.: The Wildcats are coming off a season-opening, 88-33, win at Williamson Saturday afternoon, while the Red Tornadoes open the season at home.
