Valley Sports Report
SAYRE — Short-handed Sayre was a perfect 3-for-3 on the mats, but couldn’t overcome nine forfeits in a 54-18 season-opening loss to Williamson here Tuesday evening in NTL wrestling action.

The Redskins trailed 30-0 after forfeits at 106, 113, 120, 126, and 132 before a bout took to the mat. (There was no contest at 138 pounds.)

Senior Bobby Benjamin trailed 2-1 after the first period in his 145-pound pound with Aidric Passerallo, but scored an escape early in the second period, and then a quick takedown to take a 4-2 lead.

Benjamin controlled Passeralli’s head and drove him onto his back for a fall at 3:14 to put the Redskins on the board.

After another Sayre forfeit at 152 pounds, freshman Kaidon Bennett locked in a cradle and scored a fall over Cody Fleming in 1:22 in the 160-pound bout.

Sayre issued another forfeit at 172 pounds, then sophomore Glen Romberger scored the Redskins final six points.

Romberger scored a quick takedown, but was whistled twice for locking his hands, and trailed 4-2 when he turned Williamson’s Jacob Peffer with a half-nelson at 1:41 for the fall.

The Redskins issued forfeits at 220 and 285 to close out the match.
