CANTON "” Canton took the lead early and never relinquished it in a 68-58 win over Sayre here Tuesday night in NTL Small School boys basketball action.

Caiden Williams scored eight points in the first quarter, and Cooper Kitchen added a pair of 3-pointers to help the Warriors to a 22-14 lead after the first eight minutes.

Senior Zach Moore and junior Dom Fabbri each drained a pair of 3-pointers in the opening stanza for the Redskins.

Senior Matt Lane had five points for Sayre in the second quarter, while sophomore Jackson Hubbard had four points, and Moore and Fabbri each knocked down another 3-pointer as Sayre closed the gap to five points - 34-29 - at the half.

Tyler Jannone, who connected on a pair of 3-pointers, and Isaiah Niemczyk scored six points apiece in the third quarter as Canton pushed its lead back to eight points - 53-45 - entering the final eight minutes.

Niemczyk scored six more points in the fourth quarter, and Cameron Bellows and Kitchen added 3-pointers as Canton put the game away in the fourth quarter.

Fabbri led Sayre with 18 points, including five 3-pointers, while Lane scored 13 points, including a pair of treys, Moore scored 11 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, senior Connor Young added eight points, and Hubbard and sophomore Lucas Horton chipped in with four points apiece.

Niemczyk led the Warriors with 19 points, while Kitchen scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers, Jannone added 12 points, including a trio of treys, and Bellows chipped in with six points on two 3-pointers.

Sayre, now 1-1, hosts Wyalusing Friday night in its first home game.
