Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY "” There's only game played locally on the docket tonight, but it's a big one as the Athens boys travel to Troy for a key early-season NTL Large School Division boys basketball match-up.
Athens enters the game at 1-1, while its the season opener for Troy.
Athens and Troy squared off three times last season, including in the finals of the NTL Showdown. The Wildcats withstood a 46-point effort from Ty Barrett to win the Showdown 68-64.
In the regular season, Athens won at Troy, 65-47. Two weeks later, the Trojans returned the favor with a 74-71 win on the Wildcats' home floor.
Tip off for the varsity game is 6:30 p.m., with the JV game to follow.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Athens (2-0) at Bloomsburg, 6 p.m.: The Lady Wildcats are coming off a hard-fought, 58-53, overtime win over NEB Monday night. They travel to Bloomsburg tonight for their first foray into non-league play.
