CANTON — After three quarters of tightly-contested action, Sayre built a six-point lead early in the fourth quarter and held on for a 32-30 win over Canton here Tuesday night in NTL Small School junior varsity boys basketball action.

Zach Garrity knocked down a 3-pointer and scored five points in the first quarter to help Sayre to a 7-6 lead.

The junior Redskins led 14-13 at the half, but Canton used an 11-10 third-quarter advantage to tie the game at 24-24 heading into the final eight minutes. Josh Arnold scored seven points for Sayre in the third quarter.

Sayre opened the fourth quarter with an 8-2 spurt on buckets by Kannon VanDuzer, Jackson Hubbard, Arnold and Garrity, and held on for the win.

Arnold led Sayre with 11 points, while Garrity scored nine, VanDuzer added six, and Hubbard chipped in with four.

Sayre, now 2-0, hosts Wyalusing Friday night.
