NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: WELLSBORO PULLS AWAY FROM SAYRE IN SECOND HALF (2021-01-22)

WELLSBORO "” Wellsboro built an early lead, then pulled away in the second half for a 64-45 win over Sayre here Friday night in NTL boys basketball action.

Peyton McClure and Conner Adams knocked down 3-pointers in the first quarter to help the Green Hornets to a 12-7 lead.

Sayre sophomore Jackson Hubbard scored six points in the second quarter, and junior Dom Fabbri added five points, including a 3-pointer, but McClure knocked down another 3-pointer and scored five points as the Hornets kept pace and led 28-23 at the half.

Five different Wellsboro players put their names in the scoring column in the third quarter, led by Liam Manning's five points. The Green Hornets used a 17-12 spurt to stretch their lead to 45-35 heading into the final eight minutes.

Manning scored eight more points in the fourth quarter as Wellsboro put the game away with a 19-10 run.

Fabbri led Sayre with 16 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while senior Connor Young scored eight points, including a 3-pointer, senior Matt Lane had seven points, Hubbard added six points, and sophomore Lucas Horton chipped in with five.

Manning led Wellsboro with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while McClure added 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and five boards, Darryn Callahan had 13 points, eight rebounds, and four steals, and Adams chipped in with nine points, five boards, and four assists.

Sayre, now 2-4, returns to action Tuesday when it hosts unbeaten Troy.
