DISTRICT 4 WRESTLING: BRADLEY LEADS SEVEN WILDCATS INTO DISTRICTS AS TOP SEED (2021-02-17)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS - Unbeaten Athens junior Gavin Bradley is a top seed Saturday at the District 4, Class AA wrestling championships here at Williamsport High School.
Bradley will be joined by six of his teammates, including senior Zach Stafursky and freshman Mason Vanderpool, who are both fourth seeds, and junior Kaden Setzer, who is a sixth seed.
Junior Karter Rude, and sophomores Jake Courtney and Chris Bathgate are ninth seeds, and will each face a win-or-go-home pigtail-elimination match to start the morning.
The top five in each weight class advance to next weekend's PIAA Northeast Regionals at Williamsport High School. The top three from each weight class in this weekend's District 2 Class AA Championships will also advance to Regionals.
Here's a breakdown of each weight class:
At 106 pounds, Montoursville sophomore Branden Wentzel (18-2) is the top seed, while Jersey Shore freshman Brock Weiss (24-1) is the second seed, Lewisburg sophomore Jace Gessner (14-3) is the third seed, and Line Mountain's Nolan Baubert (24-7) is the fourth seed.
Wyalusing freshman C.J. Carr (14-1) is the fifth seed, and will face Baumert in the opening round, while Canton freshman Cohen Landis (9-1) is the eight seed, and will face Danville sophomore Blake Sassaman (17-2) in the pigtail-elimination round, with the winner facing Wentzel.
At 113 pounds, Bradley (30-0) will face the winner of the pigtail-elimination match between eighth-seeded Blake Snyder (25-4) of Montgomery and ninth-seeded Brody Long (19-14) of Line Mountain, in the quarterfinals.
Fourth-seed Wade Alleman (10-6) of Shamokin will face fifth-seed Kaden Milheim (11-1) of Warrior Run in the other quarter-final match at the top of the bracket.
On the bottom half of the bracket, second-seeded South Williamsport junior Robert Gardner (29-0) will face Sullivan County's seventh-seeded Rocky Finnegan in the opening round, and third-seeded Southern Columbia junior Brady Feese (12-2) will face sixth-seeded Troy senior Joe Schwenk (13-8).
At 120 pounds, Vanderpool (14-4) will face Line Mountain's fifth-seeded junior Aidan Kritzer (20-4) in the opening round. The winner will likely face Benton's top-seeded Benton Kolb (13-4) in the semifinals.
On the bottom half of the bracket, Southern Columbia freshman Mason Barvitskie (11-0) is the second seed and will face Montgomery's seventh-seeded freshman Caden Finck (25-4) in the opening round, while Canton senior Issac Landis (7-2) is the third seed, and faces Warrior Run's sixth-seeded senior Kaden Majcher (12-1).
At 126 pounds, Benton senior Gable Strickland (23-0) is the top seed,while Mifflinburg senior Gabe Gramley (23-2) is the second seed, Troy junior Seth Seymour (19-2) is the third seed, Wyalusing senior Hunter Manahan (10-4) is the fourth seed, and Southern Columbia junior Kole Biscoe (12-3) is the fifth seed.
Athens sophomore Jake Courtney (14-9) is the ninth seed, and will face eighth-seeded Line Mountain junior Lane Schadel (27-6) in the pigtail-elimination match. The winner gets Strickland.
At 132 pounds, Meadowbrook Christian sophomore Cade Wirnsberger (20-5) is the top seed, while Lewisburg junior Kaiden Wagner (13-1) is the second seed, Jersey Shore junior Liam Goodrich (16-11) is the third seed, and Canton sophomore Bailey Ferguson (8-1) is the fourth seed.
North Penn-Liberty's Patriot June (8-4) is the ninth seed and will wrestle Midd-West's eighth-seeded sophomore Conner Heckman (24-4) in the pigtail-elimination match.
At 138 pounds, Athens junior Kaden Setzer (23-5) is the sixth seed, and will face third-seeded Southern Columbia senior Ian Yoder (11-3) in the opening round.
Montgomery freshman Conner Harer (27-1) is the second seed and will face seventh-seeded Wyalusing junior Skyler Manahan (13-3) in the opening round.
At the top of the bracket, Canton sophomore Hayden Ward (8-0) is the top seed, and Lewisburg senior Logan Bartlett (14-3) is the fourth seed.
At 145 pounds, Southern Columbia senior Patrick Edmondson (13-0) is the top seed, and will face the winner of the pigtail-elimination match between eighth-seeded Canton freshman Hudson Ward (10-1) and ninth-seeded Montoursville junior Kayden Frame (11-8).
Sullivan County senior Nathan Higley (17-0) is the second seed, while Loyalsock freshman Kaden Rodarmel (13-7) is the third seed, and Benton sophomore Remington Morrow (11-12) is the fourth seed.
At 152 pounds, Bathgate (25-7) is the ninth-seed and will face eighth-seeded Danville freshman Weston Whapham (14-7) in the pigtail-elimination match. The winner faces top-seeded former Troy standout Isaac Cory (19-3) of Montoursville in the opening round.
Line Mountain senior Bryce Carl (32-0) is the second seed, while Wyalusing junior Nick Woodruff (14-1) is the third seed, and Canton freshman Michael Davis (5-2) is the fourth seed.
At 160 pounds, Rude (24-8) is the ninth seed and will square off with eighth-seeded Montgomery senior Kaide Drick (24-5) in the elimination-bracket match. The winner will face top-seeded Midd-West senior Avery Bassett (26-0) in the opening round.
Benton junior Nolan Lear (21-1) is the second seed, with Canton sophomore Riley Parker (9-0) the third seed, Jersey Shore sophomore Tyler Bauder (18-7) the fourth seed, Muncy junior Ty Nixon (18-3) the fifth seed, and Southern Columbia freshman Garrett Garcia (13-2) the sixth seed.
At 170 pounds, Stafursky (21-10) is the fourth seed and will face fifth-seeded Bloomsburg senior Stephen Roeder (14-3) in the opening round.
Southern Columbia junior Gavin Garcia (14-1) is the top seed. He will face the winner of the pigtail-elimination match between eighth-seeded Troy sophomore Mason Woodward (18-5), and ninth-seeded Montgomery junior Colby Springman (23-6) in the pigtail-elimination match.
On the bottom of the bracket, Ethan Gush is the second seed, and North Penn-Liberty's Kohen Lehmen (11-2) is the third seed.
At 182 pounds, Montoursville senior Cael Crebs (22-1) is the top seed, and will face the winner of the pigtail-elimination match between eighth-seeded Canton junior Derek Atherton-Ely (10-1) and ninth-seeded Milton senior Aven Ayala (17-6).
Wyalusing senior Zach Shaffer (11-4) is the fourth seed and will square off with fifth-seeded Line Mountain senior Jacob Freese (23-2) in the opening round.
On the bottom of the bracket, Southern Columbia sophomore Wesley Barnes (14-0) is the second seed, and Jersey Shore sophomore Hayden Packer (22-4) is the third seed.
At 215 pounds, Montoursville senior Dylan Bennett (20-1) is the top seed, while Mount Carmel junior Damon Backes (20-0) is the second seed, Towanda senior Clay Watkins (13-4) is the third seed, and Williamson junior Mikey Sipps (21-5) is the fourth seed.
At 285 pounds, Mifflinburg sophomore Emmanuel Ulrich (22-1) is the top seed, while Hughesville senior Caleb Burkhart (21-3) is the second seed, Williamson junior Kade Sottolano (26-1) is the third seed, and Jersey Shore senior Lee Springman (10-6) is the fourth seed.
Towanda senior Alex Perez (12-6) is the ninth-seed, and will face ninth-seeded Gunner Treibley (18-6) in the pigtail-elimination match. The winner will face Ulrich.
