ON TAP TODAY: WAVERLY, ATHENS BOYS HOME ON THE HARDWOODS (2021-02-19)

Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY - It's a light night of action, but everything is either home, or close to it, with the Waverly and Athens boys at home, the Athens girls at NEB, and the Tioga wrestlers at Owego.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Horseheads (0-3) at Waverly (2-0), 5:30 p.m. varsity ONLY:
The Wolverines are coming off a pair of lopsided wins over Candor, and had their games with Newark Valley this week postponed by Covid-19 protocol.

A late addition to the schedule has them playing tonight against Horseheads, which lost a 72-38 decision over Corning in its season opener.

Canton (7-6) at Athens (9-7), 6 p.m. JV start: The Wildcat are coming off a 63-51 win over Towanda Wednesday, while the Warriors slipped past Montgomery, 55-52.

Athens win snapped a four-game losing streak, while Canton has exchanged wins and losses over its last eight games.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Athens (13-3) at NEB (10-3), 6:30 p.m. varsity ONLY:
The Lady Wildcats are coming off a 51-21 win over Canton Wednesday night, while the Lady Panthers edged Sullivan County, 63-62, last Friday.

Earlier this season, Athens edged NEB, 58-53, in overtime.

WRESTLING
Tioga (1-0) at Owego (1-0), 6 p.m.:
The Tigers rolled to a season-opening 63-9 win at Owego Wednesday night, while the Indians slipped past Edison, 31-30, via tie-breaker criteria.

The match of the night appears to be at 132 pounds, where returning state place-finisher Caden Bellis, ranked No. 1 in Section IV, takes on Owego's Matt Laubach, who is ranked third.
