IAC BOYS SWIMMING: WAVERLY WINS 10 OF 11 EVENTS; CLAIMS TEAM TITLE AT LEAGUE MEET (2021-02-20)

WAVERLY "” Waverly won 10 of 11 events, led by four-time winners junior Kaden Wheeler, and sophomores Oscar Williams and Jerrell Sackett, to win the virtual IAC Swim Championships Saturday afternoon.

Waverly, swimming in its home pool. claimed the team title with 434 points, while Lansing (at home) was second with 371, Watkins Glen (at home) was third at 295 points, Dryden (at Waverly) was fourth with 259, and O-M (at Watkins Glen) was fifth with 169 points. Southern Cayuga was in quarantine and unable to participate.

Watkins Glen 8th-grader Liam Smith kept the Wolverines from perfection, winning the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.85 - edging out Waverly freshman Liam Wright by 0.35 seconds.

Senior Dillon Madigan was third in the 200 free in 2:02.31 for the Wolverines, and sophomore Sheldon Huddleston was sixth in 2:26.84.

Wheeler, Williams, freshman Ryan Clark, and Sackett teamed to win the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:46.98 - nearly 21 seconds faster than the O-M foursome.

The same foursome also teamed to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:34.41.

Wheeler won the 100-yard butterfly in 55.23 seconds, and Madigan was third in 1:04.43. Wheeler also won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:06.91, and Clark was fourth in 1:11.47.

Williams won the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:14.48, and Clark was third in 2:18.35. He also won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:00.51.

Sackett won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.84 seconds, and senior Max Pan was third in 25.3 seconds. Sackett also won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 52.2 seconds, and Pan was fifth in 59.0 seconds.

Wright won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:31.44, and 7th-grader Finn Williams was fifth in 6:46.8.

Wright teamed with Pan, Madigan, and Huddleston to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:56.27.

Waverly will swim Thursday in the virtual Section IV Swimming & Diving Championships.
