ATHENS "” Central Columbia held Athens to just 10 points through three quarters en route to a 31-19 win here Saturday afternoon in junior varsity non-league girls basketball action.

Emma Bronson and Karlee Bartlow scored two points apiece in the first quarter to help Athens to a 4-3 lead after the first eight minutes, but CC outscored the junior Wildcats 8-2 in the second quarter and 7-4 in the third to take am 18-10 lead in the final stanza.

Bartlow scored five points in the fourth quarter, and Bronson added four, but the Lady Blue Jays used a 13-9 advantage in the final eight minutes to put the game away.

Bronson led Athens with 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one blocked shot, while Bartlow scored seven points, Izzy Davis grabbed seven rebounds, Amber Galvin notched four steals, and Mya Thompson blocked two shots.

Caitlyn Weatherill led CC with 13 points.

Athens 25, Canton 11

On Wednesday, Athens limited Canton just one free throw in the first half on its way to a 25-11 win at Canton.

Mya Thompson scored six points in the first quarter to help the junior Wildcats to an 8-2 lead after the first eight minutes.

Thompson scored five more points in the second quarter, and Emma Bronson added four points in an 11-0 blitz that put Athens up 19-1 at the half.

Canton outscored Athens, 10-6, in the second half, but it was too little, too late.

Thomson led Athens with 12 points, 11 rebounds, four steals, and three blocked shots, while Bronson had seven points, 11 rebounds, four steals, and two blocked shots, and Karlee Bartlow added five points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Carolyn Thorek and Hailie Kapichok led Canton with four points apiece.

Athens returns to action Monday night when it hosts Wyalusing.
