NTL JUNIOR HIGH SWIMMING: ATHENS BOYS, GIRLS REPEAT AS LEAGUE CHAMPS; RECORDS FALL (19 PHOTOS) (2021-02-21)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS "” The Athens boys and girls both topped Towanda Wednesday to defend their titles, and win the NTL junior high swimming & diving championships.
The Athens foursome of Ethan Hicks, Ryan Gorman, Josh Leonard, and Ronel Ankam broke the meet record in the 200-yard medley relay, topping the prior record by four seconds. They clocked in at 2:15.5.
Hicks, Gorman and Ankam all teamed with Carter Lewis to break their own record from last year by nine seconds. The new record time is 1:54.39.
BOYS
Athens 198, Towanda 14Hicks, Gorman and Ankam were four-time winners for the Wildcats.
Hicks won the 100-yard IM in 1:14.35, and Charan Venkataswamy was second in 1:23.04. Hicks also won the 100-yard freestyle in time of 1:02.39.
Gorman won the 50-yard butterfly in a time of 32.53 seconds, while Venkataswamy was second in 36.87 seconds, and Leonard was third in 38.29 seconds.
Gorman won the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 36.75 seconds, while Zach Earls was second in 48.6 seconds, and William White was third in 50.61 seconds.
Ankam won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.59 seconds, and Lewis was second in 30.05 seconds. Ankam also won the 50-yard backstroke in 35.73 seconds, and Lewis was again second in 38.59 seconds.
GIRLS
Athens 123, Towanda 107Olivia Cheresnowsky and Evey Panek were quad-winners to lead the Lady Wildcats to first place.
Cheresnowsky and Panek teamed with Hannah Earls and Madeline Henderson to win the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:46.74.
Cheresnowsky won the 100-yard IM in a time of 1:21.96, and Henderson was third.
Cheresnowsky also won the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 33.93 seconds, and Elizabeth Talada was second in 45.68 seconds.
Panek won the 50-yard freestyle in 32.53 seconds, and Talada was second in 37.15 seconds.
Panek won the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 48.07 seconds, and Earls was second in 50.08.
