Valley Sports Report
ATHENS - Towanda used a strong second quarter to take control of the game in a 32-22 win over Athens here Wednesday night in NTL junior varsity girls basketball action.

The two teams battled to a 5-5 deadlock after the first eight minutes, but Eliza Fowler scored seven points, including a 3-pointer in the second quarter to fuel a 13-6 Towanda run that put them ahead 18-11 at the half.

Natalee Watson scored four points in the third quarter for Athens, and Karlee Bartlow, who scored all six of her team's points in the second quarter, added an old-fashioned three-point play, but Towanda used balanced scoring to add one more points to it lead, 28-20, heading into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter was a defensive struggle with Fowler and Saige Greenland scoring Towanda's only points. However, Athens managed just two points on a bucket by Izzy Davis.

Fowler led Towanda with 16 points, and Greenland added six.

Bartlow led Athens with 11 points, four rebounds and three steals, while Watson added four points and four boards, Mya Thompson contributed six rebounds and two blocked shots, Emma Bronson had four boards and two blocked shots, and David hauled down six boards.

Athens returns to action tonight when it hosts North Penn-Mansfield.
