NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: MACIK, MILLER POWER ATHENS IN 42-21 WIN OVER NP-M (2021-02-25)

ATHENS "” Junior Caydence Macik and senior Kayleigh Miller combined for 39 points to lead Athens to a 42-21 win over North Penn-Mansfield here Thursday night in NTL girls basketball action.

Macik scored eight points in the first quarter, and Miller added seven, including a 3-pointer, to fuel a 15-6 run in the opening eight minutes.

The Lady Wildcat defense held NP-M to a single free throw in the second quarter, but the Athens offense sputtered as well, with Macik scoring the only two points of the stanza to make it 17-8 at the half.

Miller, who had an old-fashioned three-point play and a 3-pointer, and Macik scored six points apiece in the third quarter, but Athens only added two points to its advantage, taking a 29-17 lead into the final eight minutes.

Miller scored six points in the fourth quarter, while Macik scored four points, and senior Megan Collins canned a 3-pointer as the Lady Wildcats put the game away with a 13-4 run.

Macik had 20 points, nine rebounds, six steals, and one blocked shot, and Miller scored 19 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, while sophomore Karlee Bartlow and senior Hannah Blackman each grabbed four rebounds, and senior Rachel Stephens had three boards and one blocked shot.

Payton Chapel and Sarah Spohn led NP-M with five points apiece, and Ashley Brubaker chipped in with four points.

Athens, now 15-6, wraps up the regular season Friday when it hosts Canton.
