TIOGA CENTER "” Newark Valley poured in 49 points in the middle two quarters on its way to a 76-34 win over Tioga here Saturday afternoon in IAC girls basketball action.

Mackenna Nechwedowich scored five points in the first quarter, Cha Gardner added four, and Bri Beebe drained a 3-pointer to help the Lady Cardinals to a 16-12 lead after the first eight minutes. Seniors Eve Wood, Ari Manwaring and Olivia Ayres all knocked down 3-pointers for Tioga in the opening stanza.

Nechwedowich pumped in 11 points in the second quarter, and Beebe and Hannah Ferguson scored five points apiece in a 22-10 run that pushed the NV lead to 38-22 at the half.

Newark Valley blew the game wide-open in the third quarter with a 27-2 blitz, fueled by 12 points from Beebe and five from Ferguson.

Wood led Tioga with seven points and two steals, while Ayres had five points and three boards, and junior Julia Bellis hauled down nine rebounds and had two assists.

Manwaring had four points and three rebounds for Tioga, and juniors Abby Foley, Gabby Foley, and Austyn Vance scored four points apiece.

Nechwedowich led Newark Valley with 26 points, seven rebounds, and four blocked shots, while Beebe had 22 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, seven steals, and three assists, Cha Gardner add 13 points and seven rebounds, and Grace Gardner hauled down nine rebounds.

Tioga, now 1-6, wraps up the regular season next week with a home-and-away against O-M and a home game with Candor Friday.
