THE VALLEY "” Football games at Waverly and Tioga highlight a very busy Friday that also includes baseball and softball games at Sayre's Riverfront Park, an Athens-Sayre track meet at Alumni Stadium, a Waverly-Tioga volleyball match at Tioga, and the IAC Cross Country Championships.

FOOTBALL
Dryden (0-2) at Waverly (0-3), 6 p.m.:
The Wolverines are coming off a 28-12 loss at home to Newark Valley in Week 3, while the Purple Lions have been off since a 40-6 home loss to Tioga in Week 2.

The Wolverines, who lost their leading rusher and tackler - senior David Hallett, in a Week 2 loss at Owego, showed flashes offensively against Newark Valley.

Freshman QB Joey Tomasso completed 14 of 29 passes for 126 yards and a TD. He was victimized by several drops, including two inside the NV 5-yard line.

Speedy senior Caden Wheeler rushed for 59 yards in the loss, but is a threat to go the distance each time he touches the ball.

Groton (1-1) at Tioga (3-0), 6 p.m.: The Tigers are coming off a 21-12 win over Owego in Week 3, while the Indians dropped a 28-14 decision at home to O-M / Watkins Glen.

The Tigers have rushed for more than 300 yards in each of the first three games, and are averaging 327 yards per game.

Junior Emmett Wood leads the way with 691 yards and six TDs. He is averaging 8.5 yards per carry.

Junior Gavin Godfrey has rushed for 175 yards and five TDs. He's also caught a pair of TD passes.

Senior QB Ethan Agan has completed 10 of 15 pass attempts for 138 yards and two TDs.

Groton's win in Week 1 was a 42-6 manhandling of Dryden. Tioga beat Dryden, 40-6, in Week 2.

CROSS COUNTRY
IAC Championships, 4:30 p.m. @ Marathon Elementary School:
Waverly senior Collin Wright looks to challenge for IAC gold this afternoon at the league championship meet, while teammate Nate Ackley looks to crack the Top Ten.

The Lady Wolverines have a pair of youngsters who will likely make some noise in 8th-grader Harper Minaker and freshman Elizabeth Vaughn.

BASEBALL
South Williamsport (0-0) at Sayre (2-0), 4:30 p.m.: The
Redskins are coming off a 20-7 win over Canton Wednesday, while the Mounties will finally get on the field to open the 2021 season.

SOFTBALL
Wyalusing at Sayre (0-2), 4:30 p.m.:
The Lady Redskins are coming off a 14-2 home loss to Canton Wednesday, while the Lady Rams have yet to play a game this season.

VOLLEYBALL
Waverly (3-6) at Tioga (5-2), 5 p.m. JV start:
The Lady Tigers are coming off a dominant sweep of S-VE Thursday, while the Lady Wolverines were swept by unbeaten Newark Valley.

GIRLS SOCCER
Tioga (1-1-1) at O-M (5-3), 6 p.m.:
The Lady Tigers have been off since a 1-1 tie against Newfield on March 22, while the Lady Indians rolled to a 7-2 win over Newfield Wednesday.

TRACK & FIELD
Athens at Sayre, 4 p.m.:
The Valley rivals square off at Alumni Stadium this afternoon in a meet that originally slated to include Northeast Bradford, which is now remote due to Covid-19 protocol.
