NTL BASEBALL: NORTHRUP POWERS SAYRE IN 15-3 ROUT OF SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT (15 PHOTOS) (2021-04-10)

SAYRE - David Northrup had a career day at the plate, and earned the win on the mound to lead Sayre to a 15-3 five-inning win over South Williamsport here Friday in non-league on Ralph Hendershot Field at Riverfront Park.

Northrup was 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and seven RBI to lead Sayre's 12-hit attack. On the mound, he allowed three runs - two earned - on three hits, while striking out two and walking three in four innings of work.

Kannon VanDuzer had three hits, including his third home run in Sayre's 3-0 start, one run scored, and four RBI, while Brayden Horton homered and doubled, scored four runs, and drove in three runs, and Lucas Horton singled twice and scored four runs.

Jake Burgess tripled and scored for the Redskins, while Zach Garrity singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, and Zach Moore crossed the plate once.

South Williamsport lit up the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the first inning, but the Redskins answered with four runs in the home half of the frame.

Burgess opened the inning with a triple to right field, and scored on a line-drive RBI double by Brayden Horton to tie the game at 1-1. After a walk to Lucas Horton, Northrup belted a two-run double to make it 3-1. He scored on a two-out RBI single by VanDuzer.

Northrup added a two-RBI single in the second inning to make it 6-1.

The Mounties scored a run in the top of the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 6-2, but the Redskins answered with four runs - on a two-run home run to right field by Brayden Horton, and a two-run inside-the-park home run by Northrup  - to make it 10-2.

South scored another run in the top of the fifth, but Sayre closed out the game via the 10-run "mercy" rule in the fifth with five runs.

Brayden Horton's sacrifice fly made it 11-3, and an RBI single by Garrity stretched the lead to 12-3.

VanDuzer walked it off with a three-run blast to right field.

Sayre hosts NTL Small School rival Williamson Monday.
