Valley Sports Report
DOVER, Del. - Athens grad Emma Adams, a sophomore on the University of Albany softball team, collected her first hit of the 2021 season in the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader against Delaware State, and Waverly grad Wendi Hammond, also a sophomore, pitched a gem in the opening game to help the Great Danes to a sweep.

In the first game of the twinbill Sunday, Hammond pitched a two-hitter, allowing a pair of unearned runs, while striking out seven and walking none.

Adams, who started at second base and also played shortstop, belted a solo home run to center field in the fourth inning to put Albany ahead for good, at 4-3, on its way to a 15-6 win. Adams has an RBI in three consecutive games.

On the season, Hammond is 3-3 with a 4.30 ERA. She has fanned 53 and walked 17 in 53 2/3 innings of work.

At the plate, Hammond is hitting .267 (8 hits in 30 ABs) with one double, one home run, seven runs scored, and five RBI.

Adams is 1-for-9 on the season with three RBI, and one run scored. Defensively, has handled 14 defensive chances flawlessly.
