WELLSBORO — Zach Rowland scattered four hits over six inning to help Wellsboro to an 11-1 win over Athens here Tuesday afternoon in NTL Large School Division baseball action.

Jaren Glisson lined a one-out single in the top of the second, stole second base, and scored when Kaden Setzer’s two-out single was misplayed in the outfield to tie the game at 1-1. Rowland recorded a strikeout to end the inning and allowed just one more hit over the final four innings.

The Green Hornets took the lead with a run in the bottom of the second, then tacked on four more runs in the third inning in a rally that featured RBI singles by Darryn Callahan, Isaac Keane, and Kaeden Mann.

Glisson singled and scored one run, Karter Rude doubled, and Cameron Sullivan and Setzer added singles to account for the Wildcats’ hits.

Mason Lister was tagged with the loss, allowing seven runs — five earned — on six hits, while striking out five and walking two in four innings.

Rowland struck out seven and walked two in a complete-game effort. He threw 101 pitches.

Callahan singled twice, scored one run, stole two bases, and had three RBI, and Dylan Abernathy singled, scored one run, and drove in three runs to lead Wellsboro’s 11-hit attack, while Mann doubled and singled, stole two bases, and scored two runs, and knocked in one run, and Conner Adams singled twice, stole three bases, and scored two runs.

Athens’ game at Wyalusing on Wednesday has been postponed due to Covid protocols. The Wildcats, now 4-3, return to action next Tuesday at North Penn-Mansfield.
