WAVERLY "” Waverly won the first set, but Horseheads re-grouped and rallied for a 3-1 season-ending win here Wednesday night in non-league volleyball action.

"The girls started off strong again but couldn't keep up the pace," said Waverly coach Charity Meyers.

The Lady Wolverines won the first set with a 25-19 win, but the Lady Blue Raiders answered with wins of 25-17, 25-16, and 25-16.

Senior Sidney Tomasso led Waverly with nine points (three aces), six digs, four kills, and two blocks, while junior Aubrey Ennis had nine points, including a team-high four aces, and four digs, and 8th-grader Lillie Kirk had five points (three aces), four kills, and eight digs.

Senior Caitlyn Bakley had five points (three aces) and three setter assists, while junior Aryan Peters had four points, six digs, and five assists, senior Emilee Little had four points and eight digs, sophomore Michaela Lauper recorded seven digs, freshman Paighten Street added four digs, and junior Sydney Nierstedt chipped in with two kills.

Waverly finishes off the 2021 campaign with a 3-9 record.

Meyers is looking forward to the fall season.

"We had an enjoyable season and learned a lot this year," she said. "We are so grateful to have the opportunity to have been able to play.

"We are definitely going work on conditioning and transitioning next season," added Meyers.

The Wolverines graduate just three seniors: Tomasso, Bakley, and Little.

"We want to wish our seniors the best of luck in college," said Meyers. "They will be missed."
