Valley Sports Report
SOUTHPORT, N.Y. - Large School champion Notre Dame put together a dominant performance in a 6-0 win over Tioga here Wednesday night in iAC girls soccer action at Brewer Memorial Stadium.

"It's nice to play a team of that caliber, it helps open all our eyes;," said Tioga coach Jim Walsh. "I would say (Notre Dame is) one of the top teams in Section IV - big or small.

"That said, our girls still battled and did not give up," he added.

The Lady Crusaders are 6-1 under first-year coach Joe Picco, the former Waverly boys coach. They outshot Waverly, 28-0, and had a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.

Leila Vargas scored from close range about 14 minutes into the game to give Notre Dame a 1-0 lead.

Maddy Watts added a goal from long-range later in the half, and Ellie Mustico also connected from long range just 46 seconds before the halftime intermission.

Another Notre Dame shot found the back of the net a split-second after the final horn of the first half, and was disallowed.

Rachel Simpson scored two goals in the second half, and Maddy Watts added her second goal of the game for the Lady Crusaders.

Junior Gabby Foley recorded 18 saves in net for the Lady Tigers.

"Gabby Foley was super sharp in goal tonight," said Walsh. "She had multiple solid saves, and single-handedly kept ND from double-digits.

"Our defense was brutally tested tonight and our midfield was basically a second set of defenders against Notre Dame's precision passing and superb movement," he added.

Tioga, now 2-2-1, hosts Newfield Friday at 6 p.m. at Haggerty Field.
