ATHENS-SAYRE LITTLE LEAGUE (MAJORS): GANNON'S HOLDS OFF JOHNNY D'S, 11-10 (2021-04-28)

SAYRE "” Gannon Associates scored six runs in the top of the first inning, and never trailed, but had to hold off Johnny D's late in the game for an 11-10 win here Tuesday evening in Athens-Sayre Little League Majors Division baseball action.

Nick Robbins and Sam Cheresnowsky delivered two-RBI singles to help Gannon's to a quick 6-0 lead.

Brenden Cooke hit a home run to lead off the bottom of the first inning, and Johnny D's added another run to trim the deficit to 6-2, but Gannon's answered with three runs to take a 9-2 lead.

Johnny D's scored one run in the third and four more in the fourth to cut the Gannon's lead to 9-7, then scored another in the home half of the fifth to make it 9-8.

Gannon's scored twice in the top of the sixth to push its lead to 11-8, but Johnny D's answered with two runs, and had the winning run on second base when the game ended.

Robbins doubled and singled, scored two runs, and had three RBI and Kade singled twice and scored one run to pace Gannon at the plate.

Jake Shores doubled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs in the win, while Alex McQuay doubled and scored two runs, Cheresnowky singled and drove in two runs, Duncan Thetga singled and scored one run, and Brycen Wood and Lucas Greninger each scored one run, and Alex Arcesi knocked in one run.

Thetga had the best turn on the mound for Gannon's. He allowed three runs on three hits, while striking out seven and walking two in three innings.

Cooke homered and singled, scored three runs, and drove in one run, and Brady Flynn singled twice, scored one run, and drove in a run to lead Johnny D's at the plate, while Justin Koenig doubled, scored two runs, and drove in one run, and Nolan Raupers singled and drove in two runs. Brayden Northrup and Riley McGaughey each scored one run.

Flynn had the best turn on the mound for Johnny D's. He allowed two runs - both unearned - on two hits, while striking out eight and walking three.
