WAVERLY — Junior Derek Seymour pitched five strong innings, and Waverly took advantage of seven errors in a 12-1 five-inning win over Whitney Point in IAC Division 3 baseball action here on a rainy Monday afternoon.

Seymour allowed one run on two hits, while striking out 12 and walking three in a complete-game performance to earn the win in his first varsity start.

The Wolverines scored all the runs they would need in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by freshman Joey Tomasso, who later scored on a passed ball.

After Whitney Point scored a run in the top of the second to trim the deficit to 2-1, Waverly took firm control with six runs in the home half of the frame. Junior Caden Hollywood’s two-RBI single was the key hit in the rally.

Waverly added three runs — all with two outs — in the third inning on an RBI triple by Tomasso, an RBI double off the bat of sophomore Ty Beeman, and an RBI single by Hollywood to cap the rally.

Junior Thomas Hand’s RBI single in the fourth inning provided the final margin.

Hollywood singled twice, stole two bases, scored one run, and collected three RBI, and Tomasso tripled and singled, scored three runs and drove in one run to pace Waverly’s six-hit attack.

Beeman doubled, scored two runs, and drove in one run in the win, while Hand singled, scored one run, and knocked in one run, freshman Jay Pipher scored one run and drove in one run, and senior Nick VanHouten,  juniors Kaden Wheeler and Brady Blauvelt, and sophomore Isaiah Bretz each scored one run.

Waverly, now 2-1, returns to action Friday when it hots O-M / Watkins Glen.
