IAC TRACK & FIELD: TIOGA GIRLS, BOYS NOTCH FIRST WINS OF SEASON (20 PHOTOS) (2021-05-04)

TIOGA CENTER "” Big days by Valentino Rossi, Evan Hubbard, Julia Walsh and Mariah Nichols lifted the Tioga boys and girls to their first wins of the season here Tuesday afternoon in IAC Small School track & field action at Haggerty Field.

With just six girls in uniform, the Lady Tigers pulled out a 53-49 win over Candor, while the Tioga boys  rolled to a 69-26 win.

GIRLS
Tioga 53, Candor 49

Walsh won three events, and Nichols won two to pace Tioga in its winning effort.

Walsh and Nichols tied for first in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.7 seconds, while Walsh won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:14.3, and Nichols was second in 1:15.5

Walsh won the pole vault, clearing the bar at 7-feet, 6-inches.

Nichols won the triple jump with a hop, skip and jump of 29-feet, 11 3/4-inches, and Kate Burrowes was second at 27-feet, 4-inches.

Kate Burrowes won the long jump with a leap of 12-feet, 2-inches.

Faith Burrowes won the shot put with a heave of 19-feet, 9 1/2-inches. She was second in the discus with a toss of 53-feet, 10-inches.

Emma Jaye won the high jump, clearing the bar at 4-feet, 10-inches. She was third in the 100-meter dash in 17.0 seconds.

Walsh was second in the 200-meter dash in 29.7 seconds, and Kate Burrowes was third at 32.8 seconds.

BOYS
Tioga 69, Candor 26

Rossi, a freshman, won four events, while Hubbard was a triple-winner, and Chris Walsh and Josh Snell were double-winners for the Tigers.

Rossi won the long jump with a leap of 18-feet, 7 1/2-inches, and won the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-feet, 6-inches.

Rossi also won the 400-meter dash in 57.2 seconds.

Rossi teamed with Chris Walsh, Hubbard, and Matt Watson to win the 400-meter relay in a time of 46.0 seconds.

Hubbard led a sweep in the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.1 seconds, with Watson second in 24.4 seconds, and Walsh third in 24.7 seconds.

Hubbard also won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 18.7 seconds

Chris Walsh won the 100-meter dash in 12.0 seconds, and Nate Jaye was second in 12.8 seconds.

Josh Snell won the shot put with a heave of 33-feet, 1-inch, and Jack Cary was third at 26-feet, 1 1./2.  Snell also won the discus with a toss of 83-feet, 8-inches.

Jaye won the pole vault at 9-feet.

Cameron Bosell won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 13:42.1. He was second in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:38.3, and the 800-meter run in 2:28.8.

Tioga returns to action Tuesday at Thomas A. Edison.
