IAC SOFTBALL: HINES TOSSES 3-HITTER; TIOGA ROLLS OVER NEWFIELD, 16-0 (2021-05-10)
Valley Sports ReportTIOGA CENTER "" Junior Alissa Hines tossed a three-hitter, and senior Kindra Wessels powered the Tioga offense in a 16-0 five-inning win over Newfield here Monday afternoon in IAC softball action.
Hines scattered three singles over five innings, while striking out five and walking one to earn her first varsity win.
Wessels homered, tripled and singled, scored four runs, and had two RBI, and sophomore Mykenzie Thetga had three hits, including a triple, and drove in one run to pace Tioga's 13-hit attack, while junior Julia Bellis doubled and singled, and had three RBI, and senior Olivia Ayres singled twice and scored three runs.
Junior Gabby Foley singled, scored two runs, and knocked in one run in the win, while Hines singled, scored one run, and had three RBI, senior Mackenzie Luther singled and scored one run, junior Austyn Vance scored four runs, and junior Abby Foley crossed the plate once.
Ayres led off the game with a slap single, and scored on a one-out home run by Wessels to center field to make it 2-0. Moments later, Thetga launched a triple, and scored on a groundout off the bat of Hines to extend the lead to 3-0.
Tioga tacked on a run in the second inning, then scored three more in the third to take a 7-0 lead. Wessels led off the inning with a ringing triple to left field, and scored on an RBI groundball single off the bat of Thetga.
Later in the inning, Bellis rolled a groundball RBI single up the middle to make it 6-0. Bellis later scored on a wild pitch.
Tioga scored four more runs in the fourth inning, and five in the fifth inning.
Tioga, now 2-2, hosts S-VE Tuesday.
