IAC SOFTBALL: TIOGA BANGS OUT 24 HITS; TOPS NEWFIELD, 24-2 (2021-05-21)
Valley Sports ReportNEWFIELD "" Tioga pounded out 24 hits, including at least one hit by all nine starters, in a 24-2 five-inning rout of Newfield here Friday afternoon in IAC South Small School Division softball action.
Sophomore Mykenzie Thetga's RBI single helped Tioga to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
The Lady Tigers pushed eight runs across the plate in the second inning to take a 10-0 lead in a rally that featured a two-run home run by senior Kindra Wessels, an RBI single by junior Alissa Hine, and an RBI double by junior Rachel Feeko.
Tioga extended its lead to 21-0 after 3 1/2 innings with three runs in the third inning, and eight more in the fourth.
Senior Olivia Ayres, Thetga, and junior Julia Bellis accounted for half of Tioga's hits in the win.
Ayres stroked four singles, scored three runs, and drove in two runs for the Lady Tigers, while Thetga had four hits, including a home run, one run scored, and three RBI, and Bellis had four hits, including a triple and a double, two runs scored, and three RBI.
Wessels homered, doubled, and singled, scored three runs, and drove in three runs in the win, while Hine had three hits, including a triple, three runs scored, and one RBI, Feeko doubled and singled, scored three runs, and drove in one run, and junior Abby Foley singled twice, scored one run, and knocked in one run.
Junior Gabby Foley singled, scored three runs, and drove in one run for the Lady Tigers, while junior Austyn Vance singled and scored two runs, and senior Mackenzie Luther scored three runs.
Hine was the beneficiary of the offensive explosion, earning the win in the pitcher's circle. She allowed two runs - one earned - on two hits, while striking out five and walking two in five innings of work.
Tioga, now 7-3, returns to action Monday when it hosts Candor.
