IAC SOFTBALL: WESSELS, FOLEY LEAD TIOGA IN 3-0 WIN OVER CANDOR (20 PHOTOS) (2021-05-24)

TIOGA CENTER "” Senior Kindra Wessels pitched a four-hit shutout, and junior Abby Foley was 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Tioga to a 3-0 win over Candor here Monday afternoon in IAC Small School Division softball action.

Wessels fanned seven and walked three in seven innings of work to earn the win.

It was quite a turnaround for Candor, which dropped a 21-2 decision at home to the Lady Tigers on May 12.

Wessels pitched around a lead-off double by Addie Aman in the top of the first inning, but Candor hurler Anna Greeno escaped a bases-loaded jam in the home half of the frame.

Senior Olivia Ayres and Abby Foley reached on back-to-back bunt singles to open the inning. With two outs, junior Austyn Vance reached on a walk, but Greeno recorded a strikeout to escape unscathed.

Senior Mackenzie Luther and junior Julia Bellis led off the second inning with back-to-back singles for the Lady Tigers. With two outs, Abby Foley knocked home Luther to make it 1-0, but Bellis was thrown out at the plate.

In the top of the third, Aman hit another double - this one with two outs. After an error allowed Asia Curkendall to reach base, Shelby Swartz worked a walk to load the bases, but Wessels induced a groundout to end the inning.

Luther and Bellis led off the bottom of the fourth inning with back-to-back doubles to give the Lady Tigers a 2-0 lead. Ayres added an RBI single later in the frame to push the lead to 3-0.

Candor loaded the bases again in the seventh inning, but junior Molly Bombard snared a line drive to end the game.

Abby Foley stroked four singles and drove in one run, while Bellis doubled and singled, and drove in one run, Luther doubled and singled, and scored two runs, and Ayres singled twice and knocked in one run to pace Tioga's 12-hit attack.

Gabby Foley singled and scored one run in the win, and Vance added a triple.

Aman had three of Candor's four hits.

Greeno was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs on 12 hits in six innings. She struck out two and walked one.

Tioga, now 8-3, hosts Edison Wednesday.
