THE VALLEY — Sayre opens play this afternoon in the PIAA Class AA baseball plays, while the abbreviated N.Y. postseason opens with the Tioga and Waverly softball teams in action on the road.

BASEBALL
PIAA Playoffs
Class AA Opening Round
Riverside (21-0) vs. Sayre (21-1), 4 p.m. @ Bowman Field:
The Redskins are coming off a 7-3 win over Southern Columbia Friday in the District 4 championship game, while the Vikings dusted Old Forge, 12-2, in the District 2 title tilt.

Sayre enters the game averaging nearly 13 runs per contest, and had scored double-figures 16 times in 22 games.

Riverside averages 9.2 runs per game, but only 1.95 runs per contest. The Viking pitching staff has pitched seven shutouts this season, and has allowed two or less runs in 14 of its 21 games.

Zach Day and R.J. Santarsiero are both 8-0 on the season for Riverside. Santaserio has a 0.38 ERA and Day’s ERA is 1.71.

SOFTBALL
Section IV Playoffs
Class B Quarterfinals
7-Waverly (8-10) at 2-Windsor (10-5), 5 p.m.:
The Lady Wolverines sewed up a playoff berth Saturday with a 3-2 win over Owego, while the Lady Black Knights topped Chenango Forks.

Windsor topped Owego, 6-1, earlier this season. Another common opponent was Notre Dame, which blanked Windsor 8-0, and beat Waverly, 11-4 and 5-0.

Class C Quarterfinals
7-Tioga (11-4) at Lansing (11-2), 5 p.m.:
The Lady Tigers are coming off a 6-1 loss to Notre Dame in the IAC Championship game Saturday, while the Lady Bobcats dropped a 19-1 decision to Notre Dame Friday in the semifinals.
