Valley Sports ReportBINGHAMTON - Tucker Brown's lay-up at the buzzer lifted the Athens Wildcats 18U boys travel basketball team to a 60-58 win over the Upstate Bombers here Sunday at the Southern Tier Showdown.
Athens went 2-1 on the day to finish the spring season at 15-5.
Athens 58, Candor 39Athens raced out to a 38-18 halftime lead, and cruised to a 58-39 win over Candor in the opening game of the Showdown.
Troy Pritchard and J.J. Babcock led a balanced Athens attack with 15 and 14 points, respectively, while Mason Lister scored nine points, Tucker Brown added eight points, and Nalen Carling chipped in with five.
Interstate 58, Athens 40Binghamton-based Interstate outscored Athens, 34-17, in the second half to pull away for a 58-40 win.
Pritchard led Athens with 13 points, while Carling scored nine, Lister added eight, and Brown chipped in with five.
Athens 60, Upstate Bombers 58Brown's bucket at the buzzer capped a back-and-forth game, giving Athens a 60-58 win over the Albany-based Upstate Bombers.
Pritchard led Athens with 16 points, while J.J. Babcock scored 15 points, Carling had 12 points, Chris Mitchell added 10 points, and Brown chipped in with nine.
Athens plays at the "Battle at the Balcony" summer kick-off tournament this weekend in Hughesville
The Wildcats will also field teams in the Waverly Varsity and JV Summer Leagues, which begins play this week.
