WAVERLY "” Tioga poured 12 runs across the plate in the first inning, and avenged a pair of losses earlier this season with a 20-8 win over Waverly in the 2021 IAC junior varsity baseball finale for both teams here Thursday afternoon at East Waverly Park.

The junior Tigers sent 18 batters to the plate in the top of the first inning. They had 11 base hits, two walks, two hit batters, and benefitted from one Waverly error that made the last nine runs unearned.

Shea Bailey, Drew Macumber, and Logan Roberts each had two hits and two runs scored in the inning. Roberts had three RBI and Bailey,and Karson Sindoni each had two.

After Waverly scored twice in the home half of the first, with one run coming on an RBI single by Carter George, Tioga pushed five more runs across the plate in the top of the second.

Shea Bailey was hit by a pitch to start the inning, stole second base, and scored on an RBI double by Sindoni. After a walk to Roberts, Fisher was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Jack Woodcock followed with an RBI single to make it 14-2.

With two outs, Roberts scored on a wild pitch, and Cameron Rought capped the rally with a two-RBI single to make it 17-2.

In the third inning, Roberts stroked an RBI single, and Gavin Fisher belted a two-run triple to extend the lead to 20-2.

Tioga loaded the bases in the fourth and fifth innings, but did not scored.

Waverly scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but could not avoid the 10-run "mercy rule."

Nate DeLill led off the inning with a single and scored on an RBI double by Sean Bubniak, who scored moments later on an RBI single by George to make it 20-4.

With one out, Connor Stotler plated a run with a bases-loaded infield single, and Brayden Talada followed with an RBI groundout to plate another run.

Landon McCarty capped the scoring with a two-RBI double.

Roberts had three hits, including a double, four runs scored and four RBI to lead Tioga's 15-hit attack, while Fisher tripled and singled, scored three runs, and drove in three runs, Sindoni doubled and singled, scored two runs, and knocked in three runs, and Bailey singled twice, scored four runs, and drove in two runs.

Drew Macumber singled twice and scored three runs for the junior Tigers, while Woodcock doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in one run, Rought singled, scored one run, and had three RBI, and Caden Bellis singled, scored one run, and knocked in one run.

Chapman earned the win for the Tigers, allowing five runs - three earned - on seven hits in four innings of work. He struck out one and walked one.

Stotler was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, and one RBI for Waverly, while George singled twice, scored one run, and drove in two runs, McCarty doubled and drove in two runs, and Bubniak doubled, scored one run, and drove in one run.

Brayden Talada singled, scored two runs, and drove in one run for the Wolverines, while DeLill singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, and Charlie Larrabee scored one run.

McCarty had the best turn on the mound for Waverly, striking out two and walking one in a hitless inning of relief.

Waverly finished the season with an 11-2 record, while Tioga wrapped up the 2021 season with a 9-2.
