IAC BASEBALL: TIOGA LANDS THREE FIRST-TEAM DIVISIONAL ALL-STARS (2021-06-15)

Valley Sports Report
TIOGA CENTER - Tioga had a trio of baseball players earn IAC Division 2 first-team all-star honors, and one collect honorable mention recognition in recent voting by the division's coaches.

FIRST TEAM
Bryce Bailey, sophomore, OF / P, Tioga:
A very good defensive outfielder, Bailey had an outstanding initial varsity season. He hit .514 (18 hits in 35 ABs) with three doubles, one triple, 11 runs scored, and seven RBI. He walked five times (for a .605 on-base percentage)  and struck out just three times. He had a 1.262 OPS.

On the mound, Bailey was 1-1 with a 3.82 ERA. He struck out 17 in 14 2/3 innings.

Derrick Gage, senior, 3B / P, Tioga:
Gage had an impressive season at the plate. He hit .409 (18 hits in 44 ABs) with two doubles, 18 runs scored, and four stolen bases. He led the team with three triples, two home runs, 24 RBI, and a .727 slugging percentage. He also had a 1.176 OPS.

On the mound, five of Gage's six starts were against playoff teams, including starts against District 4, Class AA champ Sayre, and Section IV, Class C champ Trumansburg. He was 1-3 with 6.18 ERA, and struck out 41 in 22 2/3 innings. In his last three starts, he had a 2.00 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 14 innings.

Conlan Taylor, 8th-grader, P / 3B, Tioga: Taylor burst on to the varsity scene as an 8th-grader, and had an immediate impact on the mound and at the plate.

Taylor, who was 3-1, led the Tigers with three wins and a 2.15 ERA. He struck out 28 in 29 1/3 innings.

At the plate, Taylor hit .295 (13 hits in 44 ABs) with five doubles, three stolen bases, 12 runs scored, and seven RBI.

Others named to the first team were: Zach Sperger, Trevor Coats, and Carson Crandel - Lansing; Mikey Wandell - Newark Valley; Tanner Potter, Ethan Fulton, Lucas Taves, and Jamie Shappi - Trumansburg; Tylor Korski, Michael Brown, and Dylan Swartwood - Edison.

HONORABLE MENTION

Cobe Whitmore, junior, 2B, Tioga:
Whitmore hit .350 (14 hits in 40 ABs) with three doubles, and 10 RBI. He led the team with three triples, 20 runs scored, and 10 walks. He had a .490 on-base percentage and a 1.065 OPS.

Others receiving honorable mention recognition were: Anders Axelson - Lansing; Luke Rinkavage - Newark Valley; Dylan Higgins - Trumansburg; Brent Eichenlaub and Kyler Ropley - Edison.
