BRADFORD-TIOGA LEGION BASEBALL: TROY ROLLS TO 12-2 WIN OVER ATHENS (2021-06-17)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS "” Troy scored seven runs in the top of the first inning, and cruised to a 12-2 win over Athens here Wednesday evening in Bradford-Tioga Counties American Legion baseball action.
With Troy up 7-0, Athens answered with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Karter Rude drew a lead"”off walk, stole second, moved to third on a single by Kaden Setzer, and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Cameron Sullivan.
Troy added four more runs in the third inning to up its lead to 11-1.
Athens scored its second run in the bottom of the third to make it 11-2. Setzer led off with a single, stole second, moved to third base on a passed ball, and scored on an RBI single by Lucas Kraft.
Troy scored a run in the top of the fifth, and Kory Schucker retired Athens in order in the home half to invoke the 10-run "mercy" rule.
Setzer singled twice and scored one run to lead Athens at the plate, while Kraft singled and knocked in one run, John Grainda added a single, Rude scored one run, and Sullivan drove one run.
Kory Schucker (3-for-4) led the way for Troy, with a double, two runs, and an RBI, while four other hitters had multi-hit games: Camden Allen (2-for-4), Evan Short (2-for-4), William Steele (2-for-4), and Gaven Davis (2-for-4). Allen had two doubles, 2-RBI, and a run scored, as Short had two doubles, two runs, and an RBI. Steele had a double, two runs, and 2-RBI with Davis scoring twice.
Schucker got the win on the mound, striking out three while allowing four hits, and two walks.
