COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY: TIOGA GRAD FORSYTH SIGNS LETTER-OF-INTENT TO PLAY AT MORRISVILLE (2021-06-26)

TIOGA CENTER "” Academics are Dakota Forsyth's top priority, but the recent Tioga grad will take advantage of her time at Morrisville State to keep playing field hockey after recently signing a National Letter-of-Intent to play at the SUNY school.

"Once I heard the field hockey team doesn't necessarily recruit for skill, but how you act as teammates, I figured I'd fit in pretty well," she said. "I contacted the coach, and she felt I would be a good addition to the team."

Forsyth says she'll work on her game and knowledge of the sport before getting to Morrisville.

"In high school, we're still learning," she said. "When you get to the college level, it's a much quicker game ... you have to know what you're going to do, when you have to do it ... and you have to make sure you have the skill, and bring it when you need it.

"I'll definitely work on my stick skills," said Forsyth. And I need to know more on positioning ... (Morrisville) plays a diamond defense, instead of three-halfback formation we use (at Tioga).

"I'm going to have to work on learning the role of a defender in that defense," she continued. "I could be playing in the middle of the diamond, so I could be pulled back to a double-sweep at any time, or get pulled up into the offense at any time. I need to know my position.

"I'm really excited about Morrisville, and playing there," Forsyth added.

Forsyth will major in Equine Science.

"I'm more of a hands-on learner, and for what I'm going for is definitely hands-on," she said. "Working with horses, you have to know exactly what you're doing, if you can't be hands-on with them, you're not going to be successful.

"My first two years I'll work with race horses, but I'm going to try to do their four-year program with the Western and English disciplines.

"If I decide to, my last two years, I can work with the draft horses, or I can go on an internship down South and work on a breeding farm," added Forsyth.
