THE VALLEY — River Road Media group is pleased to announced it is expanding its coverage area into the Elmira-Corning area with the launch of Southern Tier Sports Report (www.stsportsreport.com) on Aug. 16.

Longtime sportswriter Brian Fees will handle the day-to-day operations of the new site, which will cover high school, youth, and travel sports in the Elmira, Horseheads, Notre Dame, and Thomas A. Edison school districts, as well as the Corning-Painted Post school district.

“I’m excited to add Brian Fees to our already strong group of sportswriters here at The Sports Report,” said River Road Media Group owner / founder Tim Birney.

“Southern Tier Sports Report is our biggest and most ambitious site to date, and I could not have found anyone more qualified to run it than Brian,” noted Birney.

“Brian is an outstanding photographer, and an excellent writer,” added Birney. “I have no doubt he can deliver the in-depth coverage the student-athletes in the Elmira-Corning area deserve.”

Fees comes to the Southern Tier Sports Report after a nearly 20-year career as the sports editor at The Daily & Sunday Review in Towanda, Pa.

A 2000 graduate of St. Bonaventure University, Brian worked in the Elmira-Corning area early in his career as he spent time at The Corning Leader starting in 2001.

Born in Rochester, Brian graduated from Kendall High School, where he was team MVP of the tennis team his senior year.

Brian spent years living in Towanda, before moving back to New York, in 2020. This year, he married his wife, Nicole, and they live together in Horseheads.

During his career Brian has been honored with a dozen Keystone and Associated Press awards in Pennsylvania.

He's won awards for sports feature writing, event coverage, special sections, sports enterprise series, column writing and photography during his career.

Brian was also the 2017 winner of the The George Heaslip Award, chosen annually by the PSAC's sports information directors. The award recognizes a media professional for his or her meritorious service while covering the conference's student-athletes, coaches, and teams.
