Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY - Sophomore Oscar Williams was a four-time winner in a pair of postseason meets to lead Waverly to a first-place finish at the IAC Championships,and a runner-up finish at the Section IV. Class C meet, to earn the 2020-21 Valley Sports Report "Swimmer of the Year."

Athens senior Emma Roe is the "Diver of the Year," and the Waverly 200-yard freestyle relay earned "Relay of the Year" honors.

Oscar Williams notched wins in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard IM, and also swam on a pair of first-place relays at the Class C Championships. He won the same four events 10 days earlier at the IAC meet.

Williams was also part of the "Relay of the Year," teaming with junior Kaden Wheeler, sophomore Jerrell Sackett, and freshman Ryan Clark. The foursome won the IAC and Section IV gold, posting a  season-best time of 1:32.31.

Roe, a second-year diver, finished third at the District 4 meet with 317.05 points, topping last year's total of 314.6 points, which placed fourth.

(With only Athens and Waverly fielding boys and girls team, and Sayre did not field teams this year, the All-Valley swim team is co-ed.

Taegan Williams, sophomore, Athens: Taegan Williams led the way for the Lady Wildcats this season.

She was a third-place finisher in the 500-yard freestyle at the District 4 Championships, and placed sixth in the 100 free. She also swam on sixth- and eighth-place relay teams.

At the NTL Championships, Williams was a four-time winner. She won the 100- and 200-yard freestyle races, and was on the winning 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays.

Jerrell Sackett, sophomore, Waverly:
  Sackett won the 50-yard freestyle and won the 100-yard freestyle at the Section IV, Class C meet. He also swam on a pair of gold-medal relays, including the "Relay of the Year" - the 200-yard free foursome.

Sackett won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle sprints at the IAC Championships, and swam on the 200-yard free and 200-yard medley relays.

Kaden Wheeler, junior, Waverly:
Wheeler won the 100-yard butterfly, and finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke at the Section IV, Class C meet. He also swam on a pair of gold-medal relays, including the "Relay of the Year" - the 200-yard free foursome.

At the IACs, Wheeler won the 100-yard backstroke, and the 100-yard breaststroke. He also swam on the gold-medal 200-yard free and 200-yard medley relays.

Lourden Benjamin, junior, Waverly:
Benjamin recorded four top-five finishes at the Section IV, Class C Championships. She finished fourth in the 200-yard IM and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke. She also swam on the fourth-place 200-yard medley relay, and the fifth-place 200-yard free relays.

Benjamin registered four top-four finishes at the IAC Championships. She was third in the 200-yard  IM and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke. She also swam on third- and fourth-place relays.

Delaney Vascoe, junior, Waverly: Vascoe earned four top-five finishes at the Section IV, Class C Championships. She was fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke, and fifth in the 200-yard IM. She also swam on the fourth-place 200-yard medley relay, and the fifth-place 200-yard free relays.

Vascoe recorded four top-four finishes at IAC meet. She was third in the 100-yard breaststroke and fourth in the 200 IM. She also swam on third- and fourth-place relays.

Taylar Fisher, sophomore, Athens:
Fisher registered four top-eight finishes at the District 4 Championships. She was sixth in the 100-yard backstroke, and seventh in the 200-yard IM. She also swam on sixth- and eighth-place relay teams.

At the NTL Championships, Fisher won the 100-yard backstroke, and the 200-yard IM, and also swam on a pair of gold-medal relays.
