VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: SAYRE'S VanDUZER 2020-21 'GOLFER OF YEAR;' TIOGA'S ROE TOP NEWCOMER (2021-08-10)

Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY - Junior Kannon VanDuzer qualified for Districts for the second straight season, and is the 2020-21 Valley Sports Report "Golfer of the Year."

Tioga freshman Tyler Roe made an immediate impact for the Tigers, helping them to a 7-3 record, and a 5-1 mark against divisional foes. He is the 2020-21 "Newcomer of the Year."

VanDuzer carded an 86 at the District 4 Championships to finish ninth. He was 11th as a sophomore with a round of 90.

VanDuzer led the Redskins in nearly every NTL match this season, finishing in the Top 10 in all but one match. He shot a season-low 80 to finish third at the River Valley Golf Course. His scoring average for the season was 86.

VanDuzer was honored with the Scott Taylor Award, which is given to the NTL "Sportsman of the Year."

Roe was the No. 2 golfer on the Tigers, finishing the season with a plus-10 scoring average in the IAC's nine-hole format,.

He shot a season-best 46 at Grandview Farms in Newark Valley, and also carded 46 at home at the Tioga Golf Club.

Roe fired a 93 to lead the Tigers at the Section IV, Class C Championships at Maple Hills in Marathon. He shot a 100 in the IAC Championships at Soaring Eagles to finish 11th.

Dylan Seck, junior, Sayre: Seck was consistently the No. 2 golfer for the Redskins, and led them twice this season.

Seck, who had a 93 scoring average, shot a season-low 85 to finish seventh at River Valley Golf Course in Westfield, and carded an 87 to finish eighth at Tomasso's Golf Course

Zach Nichols, senior, Tioga: Nichols consistently led Tioga this spring, finishing the season with a plus-9 scoring average.

Nichols fired a season-low 40 at home at the Tioga Golf Club, and shot a 43 at Hillendale Golf Course in Ithaca.

Nichols fired a 93 at Soaring Eagles Golf Course to finish sixth at the IAC Championships.He shot a 99 at the Class C Championships at Maple Hills.

Cam Sullivan, sophomore, Athens: Sullivan had a number of Top 10 finishes in the NTL matches, including a round of 88 to finish second at the Tioga Golf Club in Nichols.

Evan Sickler, freshman, Tioga: A strong candidate for Newcomer of the Year, Sickler was consistently the No. 3 golfer for the Tigers, finishing with a plus-12 scoring average (96).

Sickler carded a season-best 47 at Hillendale Golf Course. He shot a 112 at the IAC Championships at Soaring Eagles, and a 109 at the Class C Championships at Maple Hills Golf Course.

Jack Knight, junior, Waverly: Knight was consistently in the top three on a balanced Waverly team, finishing with a plus-13 scoring average.

Knight fired a season-best 44 at Hillendale Golf Course, and carded a 46 at home in the season finale.

He shot a 101 at the IAC Championships at Soaring Eagles.
