THE WEEK AHEAD: FALL SEASON HITS ITS STRIDE WITH FIRST FULL WEEK OF ACTION (2021-09-12)

THE VALLEY — It’s the first full week of the fall season (remember, last Monday was Labor Day), and every team will be in action this week, including three home football games (at Waverly, Athens, and Tioga) Friday night.

There are 30 events on this week’s docket including eight on Tuesday, and seven each on Thursday and Friday.

The following are some, not all, of this week’s top events:

MONDAY (2)
•  Athens hosts Troy in a key early-season NTL girls soccer contest.

TUESDAY (8)
•  The Waverly boys host IAC South Large School rival Newark Valley under the lights on the soccer pitch at Memorial Stadium.

•  The Athens and Sayre golfers are in action at River Valley Country Club in Westfield, Pa.

•  Tioga hosts Candor in a key IAC South Small School volleyball match-up.

•  Waverly hosts S-VE on the volleyball hardwoods.

•  Athens volleyball hosts Canton.

•  The Waverly cross country teams host Whitney Point.

WEDNESDAY (1)
•  Athens travels to Williamson for a girls soccer contest.

THURSDAY (7)
•  In the pool, the Waverly girls host Southern Cayuga.

•  Waverly hosts Newark Valley in a key divisional volleyball match-up.

•  Sayre hosts NTL volleyball rival Troy.

FRIDAY (7)
•  Waverly hosts Chenango Valley in a key Section IV, Division V football contest at Memorial Stadium.

•  Athens hosts South Williamsport in an NTL non-divisional game at Alumni Stadium.

•  Tioga hosts O-M / Watkins Glen in a non-league football game at Haggerty Field.

•  Sayre is on the road to face Small School gridiron rival Montgomery.

•  The Waverly girls hit the road for a key divisional girls soccer match-up at Notre Dame.

•  The Tioga girls host Newfield on the soccer pitch.

SATURDAY (5)
•  The Lady Wolverines hosts their annual Swimming & Diving Invitational.

•  Waverly and Athens are at the McDaniel-Baxter Cross Country Invitational at Chenango Valley.

•  Athens hosts powerhouse Fayetteville-Manlius in a non-league girls soccer mach.

•  Tioga is on the road at the Oneonta Volleyball Tournament.

•  Sayre hosts Small School volleyball rival Canton.
