IAC GIRLS SOCCER: INJURIES MOUNT IN TIOGA'S 6-0 LOSS AT WATKINS GLEN (2021-09-21)

Valley Sports Report
WATKINS GLEN "” Six different players found the net for Watkins Glen in a 6-0 win over Tioga here Wednesday afternoon in IAC girls soccer action.

The Tioga program has struggled with numbers the last several years. The Lady Tigers entered the season with just 13 players, and the injury bug has bitten them hard this season.

"During preseason, one of our main concerns was low numbers," said Tioga coach Jim Walsh.  "Tonight, and for the rest of the season that will be our number one main concern.

"It will be a matter of survival and completing the season at this point," he noted. "Two of our 13 players could not play tonight due to injury and a third was injured during the first half tonight, and the remainder of the game was played 1o-v-10.

"The three injured players are our top tier players in their positions and are likely done for the season or at best the majority of the rest of the season," added Walsh.

Sasha Honrath scored on a free kick about 6 1/2 minutes into the game, then Skye Honrath scored about 4 1/2 minutes later to give the Lady Senecas a 2-0.

Olivia King capped the first-half scoring with 15:09 remaining to extend the lead to 3-0.

Abby Gibson, Maddie Tuttle and Jennifer Gublo added goals in the second-half.

Watkins Glen outshot Tioga 22-3.

Gabby Foley recorded 16 saves in net for the Lady Tigers.

Tioga, now 1-4-1, returns to action Friday night at O-M.
