FROM THE PRESS BOX: PART II OF WEEKLY PIGSKIN PROGNOSTICATIONS (2021-09-25)

After five games on Friday night, we have four more today, and two on Monday night.

The pigskin prognosticators had a perfect Friday night, with all four posting 5-0 records.

Little Red improves to 34-5 on the season, while The Mick is 4 games back at 30-9, I have a 29-10 record, and Country Bob brings up the rear at 27-12.

(My guest prognosticators - The Mick, Country Bob, and Little Red - return this season. I've used pseudonyms to protect the innocent, but I will tell you that all three are either current or former coaches in the Valley, and all three are Valley grads.)

SATURDAY
Geneva at Waverly, 7 p.m. @ Memorial Stadium:
The Wolverines are coming off a hard-fought, 17-7, win over a physical Chenango Valley, while the Class B Panthers are coming off a 42-0 home loss to state-ranked Batavia (3-0), which is 6th in the Class B rankings.

Waverly struggled a little bit against Chenango Valley's ball-control offense, but put it together when it count with a pair of TDs in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.

Geneva's other loss was a 42-8 setback against Wayne (3-0), which is an honorable mention in the latest Class B rankings.

Prediction: This is a crap-shoot because I know absolutely nothing about Geneva, aside from the fact they're not afraid to take on a game against a state-ranked opponent on short notice. ... WAVERLY 31, GENEVA 15.
Little Red:
Waverly 28, Geneva 21
The Mick: Waverly 28, Geneva 6
Country Bob: Waverly 34, Geneva 7

Deposit-Hancock at Newark Valley, 1:30 p.m.: The Cardinals are coming off a 62-3 road win at Bainbridge-Guilford last week, while the Lumberjacks were on a bye coming off a 35-6 Week 1 loss at Delhi.

Prediction: Newark Valley lost a ton to graduation, but weren't that far away from taking down Harpursville-Afton in a 42-33 Week 1 loss. B-G is rebuilding, so Deposit-Hancock will be a bigger test. I say they pass with flying colors. ... NEWARK VALLEY 34, D-H 14.
Little Red: Newark Valley 31, Deposit-Hancock 7
The Mick: Newark Valley 34, Deposit-Hancock 21
Country Bob: Newark Valley 24, Deposit-Hancock 20

Cowanesque Valley (2-2) at CMVT (0-4), 1 p.m.:
The Indians are coming off a 42-21 loss to Muncy last week, while CMVT dropped a 43-26 decision to Holy Cross.

Prediction: The Indians have quality league wins over Sayre and Montgomery, while Rams have been outscored in its three NTL games, 182-20. ... COWANESQUE VALLEY 48, CMVT 14.
Little Red: Cowanesque Valley 35, CMVT 0
The Mick: Cowanesque Valley 5, CMVT 6
Country Bob: Cowanesque Valley 47, CMVT 0

Wellsboro (1-1) at Troy (3-1), 7 p.m.:  The Trojans are coming off a 35-0 win over NP-Mansfield, and have outscored their opponents 72-7 since a Week 1 loss to Bald Eagle Area, while the Green Hornets have been off since a 17-7 Week 2 win over South Williamsport.

Prediction: I think Wellsboro was a bit overlooked in the preseason due to low numbers, and its win over South Williamsport in Week 2 was a good sign I was right. However, the two-week lay-off may be their undoing against a big and physical Troy squad. ... TROY 14, WELLSBORO 10.
Little Red: Troy 21, Wellsboro 7
The Mick: Troy 27, Wellsboro 6
Country Bob: Troy 20, Wellsboro 7

MONDAY
Tioga (2-0) vs. Walton (0-2), 7 p.m. @ Sidney H.S.:
The Tigers are coming off a big 27-14 non-divisional win over O-M / Watkins Glen, while the Tigers dropped a 35-20 decision at Delhi.

Tioga's win over O-M / WG may prove to be its biggest test of the season, but Walton, regardless of its record, is always dangerous.

Prediction: The Tigers have a very real passing attack, with sophomore QB Caden Bellis at the helm, and still have one of the best tailbacks in the state in senior Emmett Wood. Stopping this task is going to be a tall task for any team. ... TIOGA 41, WALTON 6.
Little Red: Tioga 42, Walton 14
The Mick: Tioga 34, Walton 0
Country Bob: Tioga 27, Walton 11

Montgomery (3-1) at South Williamsport (2-2), 7 p.m.: The Red Raiders are coming off a 36-16 home loss to Sayre, while the Mounties blanked Athens, 7-0.

Prediction: South Williamsport has played good games against good opponents. Montgomery's there wins came against teams with a combined record of 1-9. ... SOUTH 34, MONTGOMERY 6.
Little Red: South 27, Montgomery 7
The Mick: South 20, Montgomery 0
Country Bob: Montgomery 21, South 7
