IAC GIRLS SWIMMING: KITTLE SETS NEW SCHOOL RECORD IN WAVERLY'S WIN OVER WHITNEY POINT (20 PHOTOS) (2021-09-28)

WAVERLY - Eighth-grader Mira Kittle won four events, and set a new school record in her first attempt at the event, to help Waverly to a 74-12 win over an under-manned Whitney Point here Tuesday afternoon in IAC girls swimming action.

Senior Lourden Benjamin and junior Sophia DeSisti also won four events, while senior Delaney Vascoe was a triple-winner, and senior Willow Sharpsteen and 8th-grader Liz Robinson were double-winners for the Lady Wolverines, who improve to 4-1 on the season.

With Whitney Point having just two swimmers, Waverly coach Amy Steck allowed her girls to pick their own events, which allowed Kittle try her hand at diving.

Kittle, in her first varsity diving competition, established a new new six-dive school record with 199.35, and junior Natalie Garrity was second in 137.65. Kittle eclipsed the former record of 195.7 set by Emily Aronstam in 1994.

Kittle won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:09.69, and Vascoe was second in a personal-best 1:11.46.

Kittle, Benjamin, and DeSisti teamed with Vascoe to win the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:08.3

The same trio teamed with Sharpsteen to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:56.58.

Benjamin won the 500-yard freestyle in a personal-best time of 6:14.9, while Vanderhoof was second in 7:22.9, and junior Serianna French was third in a personal-best 9:18.22.

Benjamin swam the fastest time in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 1:34.68, and Robinson was second in a personal-best 1:34.59.

DeSisti won the 50-yard freestyle in a personal-best time of 28.52 seconds, and junior Abbey Knolles was second in 34.84 seconds. DeSisti also won the 100-yard butterfly in a personal-best time of 1:13.39.

Vascoe won the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:39.03, and Sharpsteen was second in 2:42.48

Vascoe also teamed with Knolles, Robinson, and Vanderhoof to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:53.79

Sharpsteen won the 100-yard freestyle in 1:06.03, and Knolles was second in a personal-best time of 1:24.66.

Robinson won the 200-yard freestyle in a personal-best time of 2:25.35, while 8th-grader Emma Vanderhoof was second in 2:40.75, and 8th-grader Sydney Rosenbloom was third in a personal-best time of 3:24.38.

French also logged a personal-best time in the 50 free at 38.45 seconds.
