IAC VOLLLEYBALL: TIOGA SWEEPS NEWARK VALLEY; WILL FACE CANDOR IN DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF (2021-10-25)

NEWARK VALLEY - Tioga rolled to a sweep of Newark Valley here Monday to clinch a tie for the IAC South Small School title.

The Lady Tigers won by scores of 25-18, 25-13, and 25-12.

Tioga's win, paired with Candor's win over S-VE, leaves both teams tied with 15-1 records. They will play Wednesday at Candor in a playoff for the divisional title.

Junior Hailey Browne led Tioga with 16 service points, including eight aces, and two digs, while senior Austyn Vance had 15 points, including seven aces, and three digs, and junior Kyra Bailey had six points (two aces).

Junior Reese Howey had six kills, six blocks, and three digs in the win, while senior Molly Bombard had two points, five kills, eight setter assists, and three digs, senior Julia Bellis had five kills and nine digs, sophomore Lilly Mesler added 11 assists and two digs, and senior Nina Spano chipped in with five kills.

NV received six assists and four digs from Jenna Hanson; two aces, a kill, a block and a dig from Gracie Gardner; three kills, an ace and eight digs by Jasmine Graham; and an ace by Joslyn Wright.

The Cardinals also received two kills and three digs from Kalyna Graham; two kills, an assist and four digs from Makana Gardner; two digs by Katie Greene; seven digs and an assist from Tatiana Tarbox; and a dig by Ashley Moncalieri.

JV: Tioga swept the junior varsity match by scores of 25-17 and 25-17 to complete a 16-0 regular season.

Layni Whitmore led Tioga with 11 points, two kills, and one block, while Rae Anne Feeko had seven points, eight assists, and one block, Joslyn Maciak had six points, five assists, three digs, and two kills, Emily Bidwell added six points and two digs, and Megan Vance chipped in with four points and seven kills.

Tioga will face either Union Springs, Southern Cayuga or Moravia in the overall IAC South Small School junior varsity championship match.
